As the credits rolled, an avalanche of emotions swept over me. Sorrow, thrill, dread, pity. It was Incredible.
To start with, Nina is a demure little being, ruled by her obsessive mom, her debilitating inhibitions, her control. Always that, control, perfection. Never letting go.
Then her attempt to fight her monsters. At first feeble, growing into something stronger and more evil. Where is my sweet little girl? She is gone; now there's someone else.
The Black Swan enters, sweeps over the world, takes charge. Round and round, pirouette after pirouette. The tension wraps around the fluffy gray bodice.
That music blends into a crescendo. Gosh, it builds and builds as it overpowers you. The White Swan then bids her adieu. Oh! what a way to go. The lights shining into my eyes as the world applauds. The grand exit.
Natalie Portman. Take a bow.
