India shines bright

Let me confess in the beginning that I am no cricket fan. I used to be, before the betting scandals broke out. Yet, the World Cup fever is hard to shrug off. It started with the India Pakistan match, and of course ended with the spectacular finals yesterday, which India won.

More than the match itself, the post match fervour was overwhelming.

Our gang was out on the street, in cars. Close to 1 AM at night and the streets were crawling with flag totting teenagers, girls with tri colour on their shirts, screeching out of their car windows, aunties out and dancing, uncles patting and hugging anyone in sight. Drivers couldn’t have been more polite, grinning randomly and high fiving neighbours.

Just one World Cup. And the whole country up in a bubble of euphoria. India. Indiaaaaa

It felt like an extended one month long crazy festival, with heated conversations, endless bets, tri colour in every street, feast in every home.

Next stop IPL. Still, not the same
